Perry blasts legislature

Dallasblog.com | Will Lutz:
“Gov. Rick Perry held a post session media availability today. He blasted the legislature on the issue of budget transparency, and particularly for not doing more to ensure that dedicated fees are either used for its intended purpose or refunded. He also criticized the failure of the legislature to vote on appraisal caps or bills that would make it easier for taxpayers to order elections to roll back local property tax increases.”
Ed Cognoski responds:

The Perry/Pauken so-called appraisal reform was nothing more than an attempt to shift the burden of taxes from the wealthy to the middle class by upping the sales tax. Legislators who resisted this should be complimented. There are ways to address the unfortunate fact that Texas relies too much on property taxes on private homes, but the Perry/Pauken scheme was not it.
