“His party's leading spokesman on military issues, [Rep. John] Murtha [D-PA] takes ownership of the quote "If recruited now, I would choose not to serve". ... A lot of people don't like what's going on in Iraq for a lot of different reasons but to lead any young person away from serving their country is reprehensible. What kind of message does this send the men and women who serve bravely everyday in the war against terrorism?”
Ed Cognoski responds:
What kind of message? That there's a soldier at home, someone who has walked in their shoes and earned the right to speak his mind, someone who "appreciate[s] a viable military that enables us to enjoy a terror free lifestyle here at home" -- who is willing to stand up to the politicians who are incompetently waging a war that risks undermining that military.
Bill DeOre ought to throw in the towel. His attempt to discredit highly decorated war veteran John Murtha by implying that he is old and weak and whiny doesn't play. In a way, it's reprehensible itself.
