Pecking at school voucher Chicken Littles

Dallas Blog | Caroline Walker:
“Nothing sends Dallasblog visitors into SCREAMING, ALL-CAPS 'Post-A-Comment' mode quicker than the words 'school voucher.' The very thought throws otherwise reasonable folk into red-faced, ear-steaming paroxysms of 100% certitude that vouchers will spell the End of Civilization As We Know It.”
Ed Cognoski responds:

Two days have passed since Caroline Walker's above attempt to sell school vouchers as the Salvation of Civilization As We Know It. Her blog post has attracted not a single comment by Dallas Blog visitors. Yawn.

Doesn't Ms Walker know that the battle to drain public school dollars to pay tuition bills at private academies is over? Today's hot button is vaccinations. Nothing sends Dallas Blog visitors today into SCREAMING, ALL-CAPS 'Post-A-Comment' mode quicker than the words 'HPV vaccine.' The very thought of protecting girls against cervical cancer throws otherwise reasonable folk into red-faced, ear-steaming paroxysms of ... well, you know the rest.

Update: It's been a week since Caroline Walker published her story about how just the mention of school vouchers throws "otherwise reasonable folk into red-faced, ear-steaming paroxysms of 100% certitude that vouchers will spell the End of Civilization As We Know It." Let's look at the results.

There are now nine responses in the Dallas Blog thread. Four have been by red-faced, ear-steaming voucher *proponents*. Two have been by supporters of private schools who might support vouchers if not for the fear that vouchers would lead to state regulatory control over private schools. Two responses have been by Caroline Walker herself. And one response has been my my impostor.

Maybe Caroline Walker will publish another article soon reporting how even with incendiary reporting like her own, she still can't provoke any "red-faced, ear-steaming" responses from voucher opponents. Maybe that's because the emotion rests on the pro-voucher side of this debate.
